Ghostbusters Timed Exclusivity in Europe

Looks like unless you own a PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 in Europe, you won’t be playing Ghostbusters: The Video Game when it releases on June 19, as Atari has given Sony publishing rights to the game for PAL regions, primarily to promote the Blu-Ray release of Ghostbusters. The PSPversion is due later in the year.

“In partnership with both Sony Pictures Consumer Products, Inc and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, we have a unique opportunity to add new game products and expand marketing opportunities to reach Ghostbusters fans in Europe,” says Jim Wilson, VP Worldwide Marketing, Atari.

Which sounds odd if you’re cutting off a section of innumerable Wii owners in Europe, as well as the Xbox 360. Neither Wilson nor Mark Hardy, European Product Marketing Director at SCEE, would say how long the timed exclusivity would be – only that the PS2 and PS3 would be “first”.

Well, not the first in the world, anyway – the game releases three days earlier in the United States for all platforms, which includes the Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 2, on June 16.
