Microsoft has issued a press release detailing Halo 3: ODST’s features, as well as giving it a date and a price. Surprisingly, ODST will be released on September 22 as a full priced game at $59.99. That’s a far cry from when the game was originally to be just an expansion back when it was called Recon.
Aside from the single player open world campaign in which the player runs around New Mombasa looking for mission hotspots and finding out what happened to the city while he was incapacitated for six hours after his drop, the game will feature Firefight, the “Survival” mode found in such games as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Gears of War 2 and more recently Left 4 Dead. On a second disk, there will be the popular Halo 3 multiplayer maps including the “Legendary,” “Heroic,” and “Mythic” Map packs; this will allow players to engage in normal Halo 3 online play without having to exit ODST.
A Special Edition will be released for $99 and will include a special wireless controller. In addition, some online retailers will add a code to unlock Sgt. Apone Johnson as a playable character if they preorder. Will this mean there are other characters that can be DLC’ed? Who wouldn’t want to play as Griff, for instance?
