Did anyone even know that id was for sale? ZeniMax Media, the owner of Bethesda Softworks, announced this morning that they’d purchased id Software, the Texas base studio best known for DOOM.
In a statement, Bethesda said id will “continue to operate as a studio under the direction of its founder, John Carmack, no changes will be made in the operations of id Software in the development of its games.” While all current publishing agreements will be honored, unsigned games like DOOM 4 will be published by ZeniMax and Bethesda.
This latest acquisition by ZeniMax continues the companies move from development to publishing, and perhaps we can look forward to a Elder Scrolls-esque free roaming DOOM or Wolfenstein RPG?
