Xbox Live Marketplace: August 26, 2009

Xbox Live Wednesday features some pretty outrageous price gouging, as some new Games of Demand and Xbox Live Arcade titles are released for way too much, with the exception of some recently leaked DLC.

Arcade:

  • The Watchmen: The End is Nigh Part 2 (1200 MSP): The game that was formerly a store retail budgetware title – and was diced into pieces for digital distribution – ships out the second part. At 1200 MSP, the price is still too high for a beat ‘em up.
  • Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao (1200 MSP): Basically a glorified Karate Champ, Invincible Tiger is a 2D sidescrolling beat ‘em up with full 3D artwork and a fake film grain, as it plays the whole action out as a 1970’s chopsocky epic. Few people will be able to enjoy this, but it also is the first Arcade game that can be played in stereoscopic 3D, both in high-end digital 3D that requires Ready TVs, or basic anaglyph 3D which requires only the craptastic 3D glasses you got from seeing Monsters Vs. Aliens or Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
  • NBA 2K10 Draft Combine (400 MSP): Basically a paid advertisement for NBA 2K10, this allows you to create a draft prospect and run him through the draft combine workouts to try to get him drafted as high as possible in the NBA draft. The player can then be imported into NBA 2K10. It would be a total ripoff if the NBA 2K series wasn’t so awesome.

Games on Demand:

  • Burnout Revenge ($19.99 USD): The classic crasher/racer, and in many ways superior to Burnout Paradise. At $20, it may not seem like much, but other regions have to pay an arm and a leg for a game that’s available for $10 used at GameStop. If you’ve never played Burnout or have only played Burnout Paradise, check it out. Burnout 3 is also available on Xbox Originals. (North America, Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Asia)
  • Need for Speed: ProStreet ($19.99 USD): ProStreet marked the true decline of Need for Speed after the fun Most Wanted. At that price, it’s way too much, though if you don’t own any Need for Speed games at all, you might want to check it out. (Not available in Japan)
  • FIFA 09 (No USD price): I can’t tell you the price since it’s strangely not available in North America – or in any English-speaking country for that matter – but this is the best of the FIFA’s, featuring online tourneys and co-op play. (Not available in Australia, New Zealand, North America or the U.K.)

Downloadable Content:

  • Mass Effect: Pinnacle Station (400 MSP): Mass Effect fans have some new downloadable content, “Pinnacle Station”. According to the description:

Test the limits of your combat prowess aboard a remote, top-secret Alliance space station. Do you have what it takes to hold the top spot amongst the best of the best? This module includes a new land-able space station, 13 exciting combat scenarios, and approximately 2-3 hours of game play. Required: you must achieve Spectre status before embarking on this mission.

It sounds a lot like Operation: Anchorage and Mothership Zeta, as combat-heavy DLC for an RPG.

  • Castle Crashers: Necromantic (160 MSP): Castle Crashers also gets some DLC, which was announced 3 days ago, which includes some new stuff for the game like weapons and heroes.
