Shadow Complex Shatters XBLA Records

Not surprisingly, the highlight of the Summer of Arcade II Shadow Complex has shattered the old Xbox Live Arcade download and purchase records.

Shadow Complex has broken the first week Xbox Live Arcade download record, having been purchased over 200,000 times during its first seven days of availability.

Released on August 19, the side-scrolling shooter was developed using the Unreal Engine 3 by Undertow creator Chair Entertainment, a subsidiary of Epic Games. The ‘Metroidvania’ game retails for 1,200 Microsoft points ($14.99/£10.20).

This in light of the controversy over Orson Scott Card and perhaps CHAIR Entertainment’s political views, gay rights in particular. The interesting part is that gay rights activist and famed author Peter David penned the script to the game.

I wonder if the glitch which lets you play on after the demo ended has anything to do with it! Be interesting to see how many purchased after downloading.

I didn’t like this game, I played the demo and thought anything further would just irritate me.

Really great read – are you having fun with it?
