PAX ‘09: Day One

pax1_1.jpg (240×186)Wish you could attend the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) ‘09 but can’t? Jordan Lund is blogging his experiences at the show as GameStooge’s press rep, first starting off with some of the pre-show stuff, including being the first member of the press to get their badge.

  • I woke up at 2:30 AM and began the drive up from Portland at 3:00, stopping only breifly for gasoline and breakfast, McDonald’s, eaten on the road. The Howard Johnson was surprised to see me checking in at 6 AM, they did not have my room available and yet accommodated me anyway. I’m all checked in and just need to pick up the key.
  • 6:48 AM – Check in at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. A line of 50 or so gamers squats on the floor waiting for the public badge access line to open. The press and VIP line is oddly empty, myself being the sole occupant.
  • 7:00 AM – Media doors open. FIRST! LOL!

  • 7:15 AM – A quick walk back to the convention center and am presented with the first signs of PAX goodness.
  • The line on the third floor extends all the way around the atrium area, it’s orderly and the audience looks the way I feel, it’s far easier for gamers to STAY UP until 7 AM than it is to get up and be anywhere by 7 AM.

Media check in isn’t until 8:30 so I have some time to burn. The plan is to walk the floor and do interviews and post hourly. Assuming a start of 8:30 AM that means on the half hour.
