PSP Mini Prices Unregulated By Sony

So, what’s worse than being saddled with over-priced hardware? How about some over-priced software to go with it?
When Sony announced the pricing for the PSP Go, they attempted to justify the $250 price tag by saying that early adopters were willing to pay more for new technology – despite the fact that the Go doesn’t really offer technology significantly different than the $80 cheaper PSP 3000.
Given all that, it really shouldn’t be surprising that Sony is leaving pricing on their PSP Mini apps up to publishers, and not questioning them as to why a $1.99 iPhone/iPod app (Hero of Sparta) is mysteriously $4 more expensive on the PSP. Nor is Hero of Sparta alone. A number of titles are significantly more expensive when purchased for the PSP over the iPhone. Tetris alone costs an astounding $9.99, despite having no multiplayer or leaderboards, a trait all PSP Mini games have.
The danger of this is that developers thinking that their overpriced games failing to sell on the PSP is a result of weakness in the platform rather than their inane pricing structure. PSP owners tend to be pretty tech savvy, and many will also own iPhones/iPod Touches so you can bet they’ll be checking prices on both machines before they buy anything.
I myself am in that camp and I’m already comparing prices.
