Sony Quietly Dumping Home Support

In an interview, SCEE executive Pete Edwards has stated that the vaunted PlayStation 3 interactive user interface Home was no longer a priority in Sony’s plans.
“It’s been a long road,” he said. “We’ve proved there is a market out there and we’ve got a lot of people that spend a lot of time in [Home]. It’s not a priority right now but there is a business model there.”
In other words, Sony is quietly dumping Home support. That is, while Sony will accept new Home content if offered by third parties, there will be no upgrades or effort to liven the experience. The experiment is dead in the water, perhaps to be replaced by something new in the future. Seems like both Microsoft and Nintendo were right about Home’s implementation.
Let us know what you think.

I can’t say I’m surprised, there hasn’t been any really compelling reason to connect to home. “OOh! I can get media that’s 1/3rd the speed of just watching it on the Internet!”
Note to Sony – Next time give people something to do in their virtual environments besides “stand around”
