Sky One Live, the first streaming television station on a console, was temporarily pulled by Microsoft and Sky due to a bittersweet technical issue: too many people signing up too fast.
According to Games Industry Biz:
“Sky Player on Xbox 360 launched on Tuesday 27th October and was met with phenomenal demand, with many tens of thousands of customers attempting to sign up within the first hour of launch,” said the companies in a statement.
“Unfortunately due to the unprecedented levels of simultaneous demand, we did not have the capacity to satisfy all service requests and therefore temporarily suspended all access to the service.”
It’s a problem most MMOs suffer on launch day. Microsoft and Sky reassure Xbox 360 owners that the rollout will happen today “in phases”, staggering units so that there isn’t a crush on the system as there was two days ago.
