Sony Lost $4.7B On PlayStation 3

The console industry is a costly one, as Sony’s financial report listed an operating loss of over $650 million for the PlayStation 3 in the past year, leaving the overall losses at a staggering $4.7B.

Sony’s latest financial numbers show that the “Networked Products and Services”, which include console hardware and software sales, reporter an operating loss of over $650 million, but over the PS3’s lifespan, the total losses for the console are a staggering $4.7 billion. Now you know why there aren’t more consoles on the market, when a brand like “PlayStation” can lose billions over a period of a few years.

This makes Kaz Hirai’s statement in August that Sony was still losing money on the PS3 Slim are the more disturbing.

Let us know what you think.

Sucks, considering I spend over $600 when the PS3 came out. How the hell they’re loosing much makes no sense to me.
