PS3 Owners: “Give Us Backwards Compatibility Back!”

The poll which we’ve been running since August has shown what Sony gamers want most: restoration of PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility.
Of course, that’s not going to happen, since Sony would rather you either buy a PS2 or perhaps buy PS2 games from the PlayStation Store, or have you buy stuff like God of War Collection with “HD graphics!” when the original PS3 upscaled games, making God of War 2, for example, look gorgeous.
It isn’t just PlayStation 3 owners – all gamers want backwards compat. Xbox 360 owners like being able to play Halo 2 or Knights of the Old Republic, for instance, while Wii owners? They can play all GameCube games right from the start (though maybe there’s a reason for that.)
Let us know what you think.

Ah, we meet once again. A great writer for the site, and apparently great readers as well if they really want backwards compatibility. Who cares? PS2 looks like garbage on an HDTV and the games are crap compared to this generation. I have maybe used backwards compatibility on my launch 60 gig PS3 five times in three years. It just doesn’t matter, and if you have PS2 games, its very likely that you have a PS2 so just use that and stop complaining.

You can thank all the cheapskate losers who cried about the PS3 being too expensive. Sony had to cut a lot of features and find ways to make the PS3 cheaper. Just play PS2 games on a PS2 if you want to play them.

Well fortunately, unlike the other 2 consoles, the PS3 has a huge catalogue of exclusives all of it’s own for owners to play, so we don’t need to plug in games from 2003.
Of course, when we want to, most of us still have our old PS2’s anyway. So how is this a problem?
[Actually, you're wrong. Jordan Lund already showed weeks ago that the PlayStation 3 has actually the fewest exclusives of the three consoles. But let's not get facts get in the way, right? - Jonah Falcon]

can we stop the bitching please?
i seriously can not believe society these days there like a bunch of 10 year old spoiled brats.
they whinge and whinge and whinge till their face turns blue or till they get what they want, than find something else to demand.
the PS3 HAD ps2 BC but yous all bitched it was too expensive.
so sony removes it and drops the price SOMETHING YOU DEMANDED and you STILL bitch.
women, you can never keep them happy.

Maybe u should have bought a ps3 while they were offering BC. I dont feel sorry for all these cheap ass people who want the lowest price with the most features. I bought a 60 gig for $600, and guess what, I got what I paid for. I never play ps2 games on it anyway cuz they look like garbage. Quit complaining and if u wanna play ps2 games that bad then buy a ps2, is it that complicated?

I speak for 45/50 people on my PSN friends list when I say, we don’t give a crap about B/C, just keep dishing out the great exclusives!

I have the 80GB PS3 that was bundled with MGS4, and mine has BC. It’s an awesome feature to have, especially considering how many games this gen are sequels to last-gen games.
I know all the hardcore Sony fanboys like to say “tough luck, should’ve got on the ball earlier,” but they just say that because they don’t want to admit that precious Sony could have done something wrong.
My cousin has a later version, and he really wants the BC in his, and I think it would be a great feature to include.
Sony screwed up when they kept the PS2 selling for so long, it should have been pulled a year ago, along with a substantial price drop for the PS3 and an update brining in BC. PS3 sales would be higher if the PS2 wasn’t there distracting casual gamers. Every one of the thousands of PS2 games would be serving as incentive to buy a PS3

Agree 100%. I won’t buy a ps3 until they have brought back bc.

I had my apartment broken into recently. They took my ps2 and my roommate’s 360. I had to choose between buying a ps2 so i could play all the games i currently owned and enjoyed, or buying a ps3 which had better features. i took the ps3. i still have all my ps2 games, but cannot play them anymore. i would love backwards compatibility for this reason alone, but when you add all the games that came out that i never had a chance to play, i see it as a must add feature. hell, i wouldn’t mind it if they just brought it back as a psn “PS2 Classics” store section. i’d be ok paying the $15-25 for Soul Reaver 2 or Vice City(games i played but never owned), just like i’d be happy to put my copy of FFX in and play that while i wait for FFXIII.
