The Lund Report: November 2009 NPD Part II

The software rankings for the November 2009 NPD, from 11th to 20th, were posted:

  • 11 Wii Play (Wii) / Nintendo
  • 12 Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics (Wii) / Sega
  • 13 Value Game Bundle $19.99 (Wii) / Various
  • 14 Mario & Luigi: Bowser Inside Story (NDS) / Nintendo
  • 15 Dragon Age: Origins (PS3) / Electronic Arts
  • 16 Value Game Bundle $14.99 (NDS) / Various
  • 17 God of War I and II Collection (PS3) / Sony
  • 18 Halo 3: ODST (Xbox 360) / Microsoft
  • 19 Borderlands (Xbox 360) / Take 2
  • 20 Madden NFL 10 (Xbox 360) / Electronic Arts

Nintendo dominates the 11-20 set, taking 6 of the 10 slots. Granted though 2 of those are budget titles that wouldn’t sell if they weren’t $15 or $20. A third is the ubiquitous Wii Play which is almost always bought as a 2nd controller with the system.

Sony enters the list with Dragon Age: Origins and the God of War bundle, but what’s this? Where’s the #1 selling title from last month? Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is, well, uncharted. It’s telling when a title goes from #1 to ?? in one month, meaning the audience is front loaded, buying it at launch and then… not so much.

Speaking of “not so much”, the new Ratchet & Clank is completely absent despite being talked up by fanboys and being heavily advertised. The series has always been a weak seller and the new one seems to be no different.

I’m somewhat surprised to see Halo 3: ODST and Borderlands still on the list. I figured that audience would be too busy with Modern Warfare 2 to bother with them, but apparently that’s not the case. When you consider that critics of ODST called it “$30 worth of content for $60″ it’s very impressive to see it on the best seller list 3 months running. Borderlands, of course, was a complete unknown quantity and it’s hanging on as well.
