Gran Turismo 5 Delayed… Again

First the admission by Mark McGwire of taking steroids, and now this. What’s next, Duke Nukem Forever being delayed again, too?
Kotaku reports:
The years-in-the-making Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed. The game was slated for release this March in Japan, but publisher Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that the game’s release date is now TBA.
In an official release, Sony stated the release date will be announced at a later date. The company also apologized for any trouble that this delay has caused.
GT5 was first announced at the E3 gaming expo in Los Angeles back in 2006. According to GT series creator Kazunori Yamauchi, Gran Turismo 5 has cost $60 million to make. The game will feature over 1,000 automobiles and 20 different locations.
The game was playable in 3D at the recent CES show in Las Vegas. Sony previously announced it was shooting for “Summer 2010″ for a Western release. No word on how this delay will impact those plans.
With the way Sony exclusives don’t sell, that $60M and increasing expense is going to hurt the company’s bleeding coffers even more.

PS3 exclusives don’t sell? My god, you’re a complete and utter fanturd.
January 13th, 2010 at 5:56 pm
Do you want examples?
Uncharted 2 – didn’t sell. It was off the top 20 in 3 weeks.
Ratchet & Clank – massive TV play. It completely bombed
Metal Gear Solid 4 – bargain bins after a month. literally.
I could go on, but I dare you to come up with a single PS3 title that sold on the level of, say, Halo 3: ODST, much less Halo 3 itself.
Jordan Lund would wipe you on the mat – in fact, I’ll summon him and let you have it with both barrels. Hee hee.
January 13th, 2010 at 6:09 pm
Uncharted – 2.95m
Uncharted 2 – 2.66m
Metal Gear Sold 4 – 4.48m
Resistence – 3.65m
Resistence 2 – 1.79m
LittleBigPlanet – 3.03m
Killzone 2 – 2.18m
Gran Turismo Prologue – 3.50m
Proven wrong. Next.
January 13th, 2010 at 6:15 pm
Proven wrong about WHAT?!
You just pointed out Uncharted 2 HASN’T PERFORMED AS WELL AS Uncharted.
Wanna show me the numbers for Gears of War compared to Gears of War 2?
Now, let’s compare sales of a “$60 expansion” like Halo 3 with Uncharted 2. 2.66M? That’s PATHETIC. Even worse: Resistance sold 3.65M as a launch title when there was no other AAA titles for the PS3. Resistance made LESS THAN 2M? LESS THAN 2M?!?!?!!
I notice you didn’t show Ratchet & Clank’s sales, of course. Considering the massive amount of advertising Sony spent on it…
Jordan, it’s time for you to squash him. Please. (laugh)
January 13th, 2010 at 6:24 pm
*sigh* Retards don’t really get it.
You are comparing Uncharted 2, released 3 months ago to Uncharted released 3 years ago. Really? You think the sales of Uncharted 2 has stopped? Are you that simple?
Going by this (incredibly) stupid logic you have.
Halo ODST failed.
Left 4 Dead 2 failed
Forza 3 failed.
You can point out Gears of War, but then you would have to point out Halo ODST, Left 4 Dead 2 and Forza 3 and you’re point is just proven invalid (again going by the retard theory).
I am not comparing 360 sales, you are.
You said they don’t sell. I just proved you completely wrong.
All those games sold over 1.5 million. That’s a lot.
As for your Ratchet and Clank comment, the games (as most PS3 games) have long legs. Proven time and time again.
Tools of Destruction proves this. Infamous proves this. LittleBigPlanet proves this. Killzone 2 proves this. Uncharted proves this.
You continue to show you utter fanboyism, your illiteracy and mental disability.
It’s no wonder no one visits this site.

@Cayal – You need some perspective. The fact of the matter is that PS3 exclusives don’t sell as well as multiplatform games.
Look at the sales of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Even on the PS3 it’s outselling every single exclusive ever released on the system.
January 13th, 2010 at 7:05 pm
Aside from Halo – which is always going to sell – and Gears of War the same can be said for 360.
The only PS3 game that could potentially get close to Halo 3 is GT5.
PS3 exclusives sell very well, they don’t sell Halo levels, but then again no 360 game does either. To say PS3 games don’t sell is completely ignorant or fanboyish. Take your pick.
January 13th, 2010 at 7:08 pm
On topic: GT5 has only ever had one set release date therefore it cannot be delayed again.
January 13th, 2010 at 9:31 pm
You’re joking, right? Uncharted 2 couldn’t even get to half of Halo 3: ODST. Now you’re saying a niche game will approach Halo 3? (laugh)
January 13th, 2010 at 9:52 pm
Niche game?
Gran Turismo – 10.85m
Gran Turismo 2 – 9.37m
Gran Turismo 3 – 14.89m
Gran Turismo 4 – 10.50m
Hell Gran Turismo Prologue sold 3.5m and it’s a damn demo.
Seriously, are you a f’ing retard?
FYI Uncharted 2 hasn’t stopped selling and it is past half of ODST anyway. Keep trying
January 14th, 2010 at 12:07 am
What does that prove? That GTA4 sold less than GT3? You keep thinking that games sell on the PS3. They don’t. No PS3 title has sold more than the launch title. Sequels to highly rated games don’t exceed their predecessors, and Resistance 2 has sold far less than half of the first game. Halo 3: ODST has sold 4.46M units and that’s more than any PS3 game ever.
When Halo: Reach is released, how many copies do you think it’ll sell? Gears sold 6M, as did Gears 2. How many PS3 games sold more than 2.5M copies?
Please, PLEASE stop while you’re ahead. There aren’t 100M PS3 units like there are the PS2, and don’t you think it’s odd that the number of GT games DROPPED?
Halo 3 sold 10.7M units. That’s considered great sales. If Halo 3 sold 2.4M, it would be considered an utter disaster.
January 14th, 2010 at 1:58 am
You do realize you said Sony exclusives don’t sell, right? And yet cayal has proven that statement wrong over and over. When you compare Playstation vs Xbox you lose your argument again. If you compare PS3 vs Xbox 360 then you have a point. But why stray so far from the original statement? And why compare the systems at all?
When you keep changing the topic of discussion to try and make your argument better you look ignorant and your fanboy shines through.
January 14th, 2010 at 2:24 am
You just keep digging and digging don’t you?
All you have is Halo this, Halo that.
First you say Gran Turismo is niche. Proven wrong (funny how you ignored that).
Games don’t sell. Proven wrong.
Now, sequels.
Halo ODST – LESS
Forza 3 – LESS
Left 4 Dead 2 – LESS
Gears of War 2 – LESS
lol you completely owned yourself.
lol @ GT sales dropped. Yeah from 14 million to 10 million is such a devastating drop.
But hey, it’s not like it dropped 10 million to 4 million like Halo ODST did.
This is the most epic self ownage you’ve ever given me fanboy.
January 14th, 2010 at 2:59 am
haha, this site is so awesome!!
just a stupid xbot with his insecurities! [Judging by your post, I'm not the one with insecurities.]
i’d rather a game that “doesn’t sell” but still wins 90% of Game Of The Year Awards!!
you can keep your mediocre Haloz…
January 14th, 2010 at 4:05 am
Two insecure, unprofessional basement dwellers just got their butts handed to them and egos torn asunder by one educated gamer. If anyone actually visited your site and read these comments, they would be laughing at you as much as I am. lol
Journalism is supposed to be comprised of facts and objectivism, which sadly you possess neither. Even the ridiculous ramblings of Hip-Hop Gamer seem more professional and plausable than this pitiable example I’ve witnessed tonight.
Congratulations to cayal for doing his homework and putting logic ahead of blind, sheepish fanboyism. Pity these fools are too slow to realise the damage they’ve done to themselves.
January 14th, 2010 at 9:54 am
You’re kidding, right? Halo 3: ODST is NOT a sequel. It’s an EXPANSION, stupid.
Gran Turismo IS a niche product (a racing game).
And stop using a game that’s sold on the PS2.

And let’s not even go to how miserably PSP games sell.
And you still haven’t told me how many Sony exclusives have sold over 3M. (Hint: 1, a launch title).
You and your sock puppets have been thoroughly OWNED. Thank you, and good night. Tip your waiter.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:38 am
Actually @ all
GT5P sold 4.75 million. More than Halo 3 : ODST. Now wheres the sales argument gone, huh? GT5 is no niche racing title. When the PS2 had the same install base of the ps3, the last GT prologue was released. Selling only 2.5 million copies (still damn good). Then the full game was released, with the install base still at that of the ps3, and sold 14.8 million. With GT5P selling twice that of the last, do you dare to doubt that GT5 will surpass the xbox 360’s (poor) equivalent to gran turismo 5 in sales? considering it sold less than half that prologue did (just surpassed 2 million) thats less than most if not every ps3 exclusive. So you have no argument left, you dumb fanboy jonah.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:41 am
Uh huh. GT5 Prologue is a FULLY PRICED $60 GAME, RIGHT? Oops. It’s a $30 budgetware title that is described by Sony as a demo. Shall I tell you how many copies of Family Feud 2010 have sold for the PC? Want to try again?
Enjoy:
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/reviews/2008/04/gt5-prologue-review.ars
Incidentally, there’s only been 3.5M sold. For a $30 game.
http://www.vgchartz.com/games/index.php?name=gran+turismo+5+prologue
You’ve been owned. Again.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:42 am
Actually. Resistance has sold more than 3 million.
Along with GT5P, along with MGS4, along with UC1 now… In addition to this the ps3 is now outselling the 360 at an even faster rate than it has been since the ps3 was released (yes the ps3 has always outsold the 360, look it up) And has closed the 8.5m gap the 360 had when it laucnhed a year early to barely even 4m. Consider that the gap was closed by 1m consoles in november alone and then consider your argument. There’s also that sales dont equal quality, which is why UC1 makes Gears2, the 360’s best looking game, look like a wii game http://kineticninja.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html Yet it still sold loads..
January 14th, 2010 at 10:43 am
Let me try this again, since you didnt read it:
When the PS2 had the same install base of the ps3, the last GT prologue was released. Selling only 2.5 million copies (still damn good). Then the full game was released, with the install base still at that of the ps3, and sold 14.8 million.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:43 am
that didnt make any difference to GT3 IDIOT
January 14th, 2010 at 10:45 am
Let me tell you this again:
THE. PLAYSTATION. 3. IS. NOT. THE. PLAYSTATION. 2.
The PS3 is not competing against the Dreamcast and GameCube.
Why not bring up how the PS3 fares against the Atari 2600, ColecoVision and Intellivision. It makes about as much sense as your argument. (laugh)
January 14th, 2010 at 3:42 pm
I see Jonah ‘professionalism’ is really going out the window.
I also provided many examples of PS3 games selling over 3 million.
And why is the selling number always increasing Jonah? It’s 1 million, then 2 million then 2.5 million and now 3 million.
How is it you completely ignore everything I say? Every 360 sequel has sold less, yet that is perfectly fine for the 360 but not the PS3?
And you really want to talk about losses? The 3 billion Microsoft spent on warranty for faulty hardware?
Back to GT5:Prologue – you asked how many games sold over 3 million. You quoted GT5:Prologue sold 3.5million and you say that others have been owned? You just completely owned yourself.
Congratulations for linking articles that are over a year old and to articles from this (obviously) unbiased website (yes that was sarcasm). Why not link to a reputable site, not a fanboy blog.
Boy you are really struggling Jonah. Really truly digging yourself into a hole here.
January 14th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
Even more amusing is you linked an article to how LittleBigPlanet is failing sales and yet it has sold over 3 million. Very amusing.
This is even more amusing.
PS3 exclusives sold over 3 million – 5 (with both uncharted’s on the way, GT5 gauranteed to sell over 3 million)
360 exclusive sold over 3 million – 6 (and no exclusive in sight)
With a good year and a bit head start, only 1 more 360 exclusive has hit the magical 3 million mark (now let’s watch the number change again).
Jonah, give it up. You are a complete fanboy. Accept it and move on. No one visits this site anyway, so do something more constructive in your life.
