REVIEW: AblePlanet NC300B Headphones (Hardware)

AblePlanet has released their latested headphones, the AudioPlanet True Fidelity NC300 headphones, which features their patented Linx Audio noise-cancellation technology.

The first thing about the headphones is that they come in an attractive, hard carrying case which includes the headphones, an audio cord, and two adapters – a 1/4″ home stereo adaptor and an dual plug airplane adapter. This is in line with the headphones’ main target: the traveler on their laptop or music player.

Over the course of two weeks of use, I found that the headphones, which require a AAA battery (included) for the noise cancellation feature, did indeed remove most ambient noise. The sound fidelity is faithful, and the bass in particular is deep and rich. For gaming use, I plugged them into my desktop and played BioShock 2 and Half-Life 2. While the headphones only provide stereo output, the thunderous action played well in the phones, with a heavy emphasis on low, bass tones. While no substitute for 3D audio phones, the headphones proved their versatility when it came to gaming.

If there was one drawback, it was the fact that vibrations would cause an unwanted stuttering in the output that was not caused by the device (such as an iPod). This is a factor to consider for city dwellers who ride buses and subways.

Overall, the phones are great for the gamer on the go, whether gaming on their PC, listening to their iPod, or plugging into the airplane jack for a better experience than the airlines’ headphones. The MSRP is $129.99 and can be purchased directly on the official site here.
