PlayStation Network Down (April 20, 2011)

Reports are coming in from American PlayStation 3 owners that the PlayStation Network seems to be down. PSN login attempts are getting an error message: 80710A06.
The PlayStation US Blog is aware of this:
We’re aware certain functions of PlayStation Network are down. We will report back here as soon as we can with more information.
Thank you for your patience.
One has to wonder if this is a technical screwup with the servers or an attack by the infamous Anonymous hackers, whose attitude towards the Sony/George Hotz legal settlement has been “unforgiven”.

Exactly for a multi-million dollar company to allow servers to fall should not be tolerated by all means. It is however understandable that they are under attack by Hackers , still once again the level that thier company operates has to be taken into account , use neo-tracer to find out where they are hacking from kick in the door and beat them while they sleep

I got the same code, been like this for awhile. But as far as netflix, I can get that to work. I click on netflix and it asks me to sign on twice, both of course saying an error has occurred. Then it goes to the netflix screen and I been watching that 70 show all morning. Figured you’d have to be on the network for that

Don’t assume it’s Anonymous. It could simply be the servers are down – EA suffered server downage 2 weeks ago, screwing Dragon Age players.

PSN has not been quite right since the first hack in a few weeks ago. Sure I’m annoyed that I can’t get on with my games at the moment, but I also believe that Sony needs to be taught a lesson. Last leap year on feb 29 psn failed for 2 days. Sony cocked up by sending out error codes that effect 60gb phats. MANY people’s 60 gb ps3s were bricked into YLoD by the code(Sony was trying to get the phats offline at the time. They sent the wrong code and mine and alot of peoples ps3s dies to the fault of Sony). Since then, Sony denied any responsibility, even tho they announced in Twitter and Yahoo that this is what they were going to do. They actually made alot of money out of distraught gamers due to that behaviour. Sony needs to be sent a message that they cannot keep doing this type of behaviour. They need to look after us, their customer base, stop thinking of their own self interest and gain back some respect not to mention honour. I might not neccesarily agree with all the ANON group is doing, but they are also doing right by me.Just lay off the families ANON, if that is you whom threatened them. I think it may not be you but disinfomation getting out,,otherwise, send the man(Sony)the message. Peace…

To hell with those “gamers must suffer for a greater cause” comments. I never wanted any homebrew applications and I don’t like game pirates screwing up my online experience (yes, I’m looking at MW2 etc) because Hotz thought it was wise to freely give out a tutorial on how to hack your PS3. I want to play, I want to redeem my codes, I want to be online for reason A or reason B. It’s not “the greater good” when you act without asking anyone, but f****** up everyone’s online components. So yes, I hope Anonymous are in the same cell with Hotz. I’ve been trying to get online since 13:00, and it’s 20:34. A day’s been gone from my holidays just like that. So **** you Anonymous.

The thing with that is that Microsoft uses their own servers and can prevent this from happening. Sony’s online infrastructure and console architecture makes it easy to crack.

My contract is with Sony, and if you chose to fly this rediculous banner of hacker rights that’s your cause. I have no problem paying for content on a free service. I do have a problem with these rouges assuming their cause represents me in any meaningful way. Sony has every right, as well to their shareholders/customers/developers and employees to protect their software and investments. These (GLHW’s) have no right to disregard the (eula) and should expect security updates. By making us all suffer over their flawed business model is a stretch.

Although I greatly appreciate what you are doing to sony (those bastards) I would like you to realize how many people you are pissing off. After years of working on windows (unreliable as shit) I wasn’t gonna go buy a Xbox, the playstation was a great way to relieve my gaming needs. I would not say i am a fanboy of the playstation… (not the most user friendly console), but when I gamed it worked fine and thats all that matters. I understand you guys have adopted the motto “SOMETIMES THE INNOCENT MUST SUFFER FOR A GREATER CAUSE”, but did it ever occur to you that you guys are the innocent ones? Look I think that if you want to crack ur ps3 its your choice, but when sony attacked that idea you guys just retaliated.
I believe that I speak for all of the PSN community, either make amends with sony, or rage your war on another battlefeild.

and another thing to the ones asking if your savegames, trophies, online profile and game profiles are still unharmed after PSN is back online. sure it is, savegames are saved local on your harddisc, your profile and trophies are also saved local on your harddisc, remember, you have to sync it before it is available online. and your game profiles are saved outside of the PSN, for example Bad Company is saved on EA servers etc. and has nothing to do with the PSN.

yea i know that it might be a problem for 3% of the users. i heard they phished about 20k accounts, the only thing i would worry about is getting my creditcard information leaked. playstation plus accounts are pretty useless for the haxxors, it would be a waste of time.
