So you wanted to buy a physical copy of the new Deus Ex: Human Revolution game from your local Gamestop store for your PC? If you waited you may find yourself waiting a little bit longer.
Fresh on the heels from getting caught opening PC copies of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and removing an OnLive coupon which would have entitled purchasers to a 2nd streaming copy though the OnLive service, Gamestop has proudly responded to the criticism. They’re now pulling the game completely and stashing it in the back room for later return to Square Enix. This has apparently all happened with consent from Square and Gamestop management.
“At this time please pull all Regular PC Editions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution (640171) and place them in your backroom. These will be recalled at a later date.”
As GameStop is developing a streaming service in our Spawn Labs Cloud Gaming Division, the coupon that was included is for a competitive service. We are returning all copies of the PC regular edition to the vendor in agreement with Square Enix.
An unfilled reserves of the Regular PC Edition should be take care of with the inventory set aside in your backroom.
Please honor any returns with a receipt.”
I would feel better about this if GameStop actually had a service to offer at this point. It makes sense that they would want to curtail any competition from within their own stores, but it doesn’t make sense in the wake of Steam attached Portal 2 sales on both the PC and PlayStation.
