Facing stiff financial difficulties, social gaming company Zynga has announced that they are cancelling 11 different titles. Fishville, Vampire Wars and Treasure Isle were the first of this group to be shuttered back on December 5, Indiana Jones Adventure World will shut down last on January 14.
- Indiana Jones Adventure World
- Mafia Wars 2
- Mafia Wars Shakedown
- Treasure Isle
- Vampire Wars
- Word Scramble Challenge
It looks like that what this represents is a consolidation of brand. Taking the success of Mafia Wars and spreading the fanbase between Mafia Wars, Mafia Wars 2 and Shakedown may not have been the best move. The question is whether or not the players of the shut down titles will come back to the original titles that drew them in in the first place.
As an added incentive to return to core titles like Mafia Wars, Zynga is offering special bonus packages, it will be interesting to see if that’s incentive enough or if these players will simply abandon social gaming completely.
As of December 31 2012, Zynga’s stock price was trading at just $2.36 per share which is down from their $11 IPO opening and their peak of $15 in March of 2012.
